A large fountain pen made during
the period of greatest vigour, strength and success within
Manhattan, New York (the home of the fountain pen).
Iridium is a dense and hardest of metals and is used to create the
tough tip to the nib which gives it a long life.
The gold clip is ball-ended and the slip-cap has a broad gold band.
The very earliest pen caps (as found on this eyedropper pen) were
slip-caps; that is, you simply pulled them off and pushed them back
on, they hold their place through friction between the parts.
The inscription on the barrel reads: "HARD IRIDIUM POINT PEN
Co, NEW YORK". Ink filling is by the supplied eye-dropper. The
original nib reads: "HARD
IRIDIUM POINT PEN Co,
NY,
14K, 1st Quality". Solid gold 14
carat flexible 'medium' nib. Trim is rolled gold. The
pen still writes very smoothly. Condition
is excellent. The nib is large ( slightly bigger than a
Parker 'Big Red'). Length: 5 3/4" - 7
1/4"
A very rare 100 year old pen
which still
produces great handwriting. |
